The Realistic Torches mod introduces a unique mechanic to light sources in Minecraft, offering a more authentic experience with torches. Unlike the default behavior, these torches begin unlit upon crafting, requiring manual ignition using flint & steel or a matchbox.
Once lit, the challenge arises as these torches have a limited burn time. By default, they burn for approximately 60 in-game minutes. This design encourages players to seek more permanent light sources such as glowstone, especially for illuminating dwellings. Relying solely on torches for lighting may lead to a shortage of light in the long term.
However, the mod provides an alternative solution for players who prefer the aesthetic of torches. Crafting permanent torches is possible by substituting glowstone crystals instead of coal. This compromise allows players to retain the torch's appearance while necessitating the search for better light sources like glowstone.
This mechanic encourages players to balance aesthetics with functionality, urging them to explore the game world for more sustainable lighting solutions while retaining the visual appeal of traditional torches.
